Lucretius has only one known work, an epic poem entitled De rerum natura, usually translated as On the Nature of Things or On the Nature of the Univrese. It oulines the atomist, materialist philosophy of Epicurus in an effort to provide Roman society with a naturalist account of the universe as a more viable alternative to the accounts of gods and goddesses in Roman mythology.
