Scholasticism

Scholasticism is the Christian theology and philosophy of medieval times. During the middle ages, many theologians linked philosophy and religion together again by rationalizing faith. They merged their beliefs with logical reasoning, to create philosophical ideas and values that could, while based on their faith, stand alone from religion.

Among the founders of Scholasticism was Anselm, who forged the ontological argument for the existence of God. Other notable figures in the Scholastic tradition include Augustine and Thomas Aquinas.
